Reading Day

Breath it in...

The deep, the dark, the grey.

The fog.

Listen...

Tap, tap, tap.

Rain on the windowpane.

Watch...

Crimson red against the grey.

Leaves from the fall.

Up the stair...

Creaking, howling, shifting wind.

The storm's picking up.

A curl of smoke...

A glowing ember, catch the kindling.

What a lovely fire.

Now feel it...

The damp, cool air - with a hint of steam.

That's the tea.

Weight...

Smothering, enveloping, gently confining.

Quilts truly are the best.

Click, click, click...

Something's moving, pattering paws, and luminous eyes.

What a pretty kitty.

Soft rustling...

Just a whisper of paper on paper.

The book (any book).

Are you alone?

It's for the best, it is.

No one to interrupt.

What does your perfect reading day look like?

Spring and summer are wonderful; full of sunshine, movement, and joy. Fall and winter... they are quiet, dark, and cozy - made for readers. September can be hit or miss with reading weather, but October... October is the beginning of long nights that cling through morning and that crisp chill that begs for the extra downy quilt with a hot tea and a good read. So, while we readers love sunshine and summer; in our heart of hearts we long for days cool enough for blankets with rain that encourages staying in and the soft twilight of fog that suspends the passing of time.

So, I have a lovely collection of teas and cardigans (as any self respecting librarian should!). Not to mention the absolute hoard of pillows and blankets that any reader must have and, of course, a cat or two or three... And the book... books... I do not have a problem, merely many and varied interests! What I am trying to say is that I have heard that it is going to rain and be quite cool and wouldn't that be just a shame. After all, I have things to read... Do, I mean do.

Now go away and leave me be.

Don't you have things to do too? Read... I definitively mean read.

Go read!
